Upcoming Meetings

 

A special meeting of the Governing Council will be on May 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. and will take place at Corrales International School at 3825 Singer Blvd. NE., Albuqueruque, NM 87109.

The next regular meeting of the Governing Council will be on June 6, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. and will take place at the Village of Corrales at 4324 Corrales Rd., Corrales, NM 87048.

MEET THE GOVERNING COUNCIL


Yasine Armstrong (Secretary)

Yasine is an Associate at Flywheel Ventures, a venture capital firm based in New Mexico. Prior to Flywheel Ventures, Yasine served as a Deputy National Finance Director for New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s Presidential campaign where she was responsible for planning and implementing national fundraising events across the country. She was also the Special Assistant to Communication for Governor Bill Richardson where she served as a spokesperson for the Governor and First Lady, researched and composed talking points on a variety of state and local issues and helped manage communications related to state business. Yasine holds a Bachelors in Communication from Truman State University and a Masters in Political Communication from the University of New Mexico, and lives in Corrales with her husband.

Heather Wellborn Balas (Co-Chair)

Heather Wellborn Balas is President and Executive Director of New Mexico First, a nonpartisan public policy organization co-founded by U.S. Senators Pete Domenici and Jeff Bingaman. She brings over 25 years of experience in advocacy, fundraising, citizen engagement, coalition-building, and policy research, having worked several years in Washington, DC and San Francisco. She holds a Masters in Political Communication from the University of Maryland. Ms. Balas is married to Joe Wellborn and is mom to two busy children who attend CIS.

Carl Grending (Member At Large)

As a native of Albuquerque, Mr. Grending graduated from the University of New Mexico with his master in business. He is a commercial real estate broker at Sperry Van Ness/Walt Arnold Commercial Brokerage, Inc. He has over 19 years of business management experience and has helped companies with move management, project management, cost analysis, asset analysis, budgeting, and property analysis. He has worked with small "mom and pop" companies to Fortune 500 companies across America, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Mr. Grending and his wife Karen Kool-Grending, an attorney at Intel, are proud parents of a child at CIS.

Linda Parker (Treasurer)

Linda graduated from the University of Oklahoma and assisted with the establishment of the English as a Second Language program in the Roswell, New Mexico school system. She also served as the Director of Development for NM Museum of Natural History and Science until 1991.Currently as the sole owner of a Woman Owned Small Business, Retirement Strategies, LLC, she and her staff of 10 provide design and administration services for employer sponsored retirement plans and pre-tax employee benefits. She is married to James M. Parker, a tax lawyer with Modrall Sperling Law Firm. They have two adult sons, one in Albuquerque and the other along with his wife and two daughters live in Corrales.

Jennifer Salisbury, J.D. (Co-Chair)

Ms. Salisbury worked for the Department of the Interior as Associate Solicitor of General Law, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management. Ms. Salisbury was appointed Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department. After leaving state government, Ms. Salisbury returned to the practice of law. She also serves as a consultant on natural resource and nuclear waste transportation issues and as a facilitator on public policy issues.

Nora Scherzinger, Ed.D. (Member At Large)

Dr. Scherzinger is a retired educator, having taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She was an elementary school principal for ten years for the Rio Rancho Public Schools. Her most recent positions were Superintendent of the Dexter New Mexico Consolidated Schools and Village Administrator in Corrales. Dr. Scherzinger and her husband own Cottonwood Printing Co. They have two children and four grandchildren who reside in California.
